Creating The Perfect Blow Out For Getting Silky, Sexy Smooth Hair
By Alexa Brooke

Did you know that every woman is capable of achieving the same super silky style that hairdressers create? There’s really no secret to it. We spoke with Richard BenBassett, a beauty industry veteran and flat iron aficionado from Exceon American Beauty Supply, to find out how the professional stylists do it. BenBassett says salon quality results actually start with the perfect blowout. Hair is like art; creating a silky smooth canvas to work with before you straighten will not only improve the performance of you iron, it will also tame your hair much easier, leaving it silky, sexy and smooth. Here, BenBassett explains how to achieve that silky smooth canvas.

BenBassett begins by telling us it’s always important to shampoo and condition your hair first and then remove all the excess water leaving only hair that is damp to the touch. Always blot; never wring your hair with your hands or a towel. This harsh treatment can damage the hair cuticle. Gentle towel blotting is more than enough to remove any excess water. With the hair damp, and before you begin to heat style, generously apply a thermal styling protectant from roots to ends. BenBassett suggests using Sedu Smoothing Heat Protecting Boost with wheat proteins. This protectant will shield your hair from excessive heat and add additional moisture, smoothness and shine. The hair is now ready for sectioning.

BenBassett says that it is a good idea to section off the hair into manageable 1 to 2 inch pieces. To section, BenBassett recommends to start by parting the hair down the center from the front to the back of the head. Then, gently pull each section to either side and secure with a hair clip. Next, take each side section and further divide them with the comb into 2 more pieces, above and below your ear, again securing the remaining sections so this hair is out of your way. Continue parting your hair and creating smaller sections and securing them out of the way until you are left with sections that are easy to work with and small enough to fit into the brush you are using. You should now be ready to begin styling it.

The brush that is used will have a direct affect on how straight the hair will be. BenBassett suggests using a round ceramic ionic brush to generate negative ions that help smooth the hair. These negative ions are created from the heat of the hair dryer reacting with the ceramic in the brush. If you are using a ceramic ionic hair dryer, this will also generate negative ions. The more negative ions generated, the better the ions enable the moisture to be sealed into the hair cuticle. An increased amount of ionic energy allows the brush to slip easily through the hair without pulling or snagging thus providing sleek, straight results.

Using a round ceramic ionic bush, take the first small section of hair, about 1 inch wide, and start with the back of the hair at the ends. Roll the section of hair loosely around the brush up towards the roots. Holding the dryer with the nozzle pointed at the hair section about 2 inches away, slowly pull the brush and the dryer down the section to the ends. Continue going over this section until it's completely dry. Going over the sections with a brush and hair dryer repeatedly will activate the thermal heat protectant adding smoothness and a layer of protection as each section is styled. With your hair dryer, brush and the thermal protectant combination, the hair will be as smooth as silk. Working from back to front, keep sectioning off and blow-drying each piece until your hair is completely finished.

Now your ready to begin using your flat iron to create silky, sexy smooth hair just like the professional hairdressers do.
BenBassett reminds us that achieving salon quality results are as simple as following these easy steps to creating the perfect blowout; but for even better results you should always start with a good cut that only your professional Stylist can give you in the salon.
